The Maples Inn, New Canaan, CT

Originally published January 9, 2009

While recently staying in Connecticut over the Christmas Holidays, my wife and I were fortunate enough to partner with innkeepers Thomas and Anastasia Kennedy and their property The Maples Inn in New Canaan, Connecticut. The Maples Inn is a fantastic property with a number of different suites, apartments for longer stays, folks relocating or corporate short term assignments, as well as a whole lot more.

The Maples Inn and New Canaan, Connecticut are actually quite close to New York City. The Maples Inn takes its leads from its long history as being a home away from home for City folk seeking relief. More than 100 years ago The Maples Inn was built and in the early 1900's it was renamed The Hamilton Hotel. In 1903 the Hamilton was damaged by fire; the entire building was razed and rebuilt on the same spot and was renamed the Hampton Inn. After changing hands a number of times in the ensuing years, the mid-70's brought some stability and the inn achieved its current name, The Maples Inn.

Under the sentinel's gaze of the Kennedy innkeepers, The Maples Inn is a landmark within its community. If you're thinking that this inn will be totally antiquated and dated in its equipment, nothing could be further from the truth. The Maples Inn has a second and third floor jam packed with rooms which are equipped as full sized rooms with queen sized beds, private baths, telephones, cable TV, and high speed WiFi to start. The Maples Inn also has an outstanding choice of things to eat at their continental breakfast. Even more impressive than that is the Maples Inn large dining area, breakfast nook, and main floor lounge which runs most of the course of this massive house on the main floor, front to back. If you're a business traveler, you'll be glad to know that The Maples Inn also has fax and copying facilities available in addition to their high speed internet.

My wife and I stayed on the third floor and we were both quite pleased with the room. It was a smallish room and from all the doors we passed on the way up to the room, we thought we might be compromised or be sleeping on top of our next door neighbors. Nothing could be further from the truth as the smallish room was very inclusive, private, and quiet which is always something people are looking for when they are traveling. The bath was in a separate room and was connected to other rooms by this inn's myriad of doors, but the access door only swung one way so our bathroom was not shared, as first appeared.

The Maples Inn also host banquets, reunions, and other special events, so if you are looking for a spot in the country with real country sensibilities yet loaded down with modern amenities, you should consider The Maples Inn!
