Don't believe what anyone tells you about Mobile,
Alabama; it's probably a piece of information that's a little askew. There is
something of a different rhythm to the streets, something of a different pace
to the experience, and something special going on at a cozy little place called
MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast. Innkeepers Jim and
Naomi Mauer keep things fresh and keep the pace a bit frantic. Naomi also runs
a bridal boutique while Jim's got a separate career as well. However the
welcoming my wife and I got at MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast when we visited there was
top notch; MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast is one not to be missed.
While I am not really a believer in the
paranormal, per se, I am wholeheartedly in acceptance that there are things
going on in the world which far and away defy our understanding or
comprehension. Many may call These supernatural underpinnings a different Name;
I am more concerned with things happening in the here and now. However there is
one item of note from MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast when we first arrived
which deserves a bit of notice. My wife and I stayed in the Serenade Suite on
the second floor with a wonderful deck which was actually located on the
overhang and was angled ever so slightly forward. When we got into the room, my
wife left to go back to the car to retrieve some things and I enjoyed the view
from the deck for a minute. The deck door and the room door were on opposite
sides of the same wall; there were no other windows or anything like that
opened when we first entered. I came inside from the deck and looked around for
a minute when suddenly the front door of the room closed! By itself! I thought
it was a tad peculiar however the door opened then closed then opened then
closed again. No cross-breeze coming into the room to affect the door from the
outside; no real breeze at all! It was then that a loud knock came from the door;
I was startled until I heard my dear wife call to me from the other side.
We asked later about the ghosts in the house;
while Naomi laughed it off a bit, she did acquiesce that people had said things
about that in the same room we were in.
Besides all that jazz, the Serenade Suite itself
was quite nice. With very soft sheets on the bed, sleep was a dream and with
miscellaneous candles set up all over the place, the Serenade Suite in
particular seemed poised for a wonderful bath in the claw foot tub.
MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast has a unique spot
on the map as it's not really in a downtown area; however it's only a short
jaunt to all manner of things (listed in full on the MY Victorian Bed and
Breakfast website) some of these include: Alabama College Sports Hall of Fame,
Bienville Books, IMAX/Gulf Coast Exploreum, Market 219, Seven Seas Pub, Serda's
Coffee, Victorian Lace/Timeless Bridal Wear, and the Café 615, just to name a
few.
Breakfast at MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast was
quite good. Innkeeper Naomi made bananas foster French toast, which won us over
in the morning. The French toast came with a small cup of diced sausage,
coffee, and juice; all in all, a winning presentation from the kitchen at MY
Victorian Bed and Breakfast.
If you're staying in the Mobile Alabama area and
you're looking to enjoy your stay in a unique and original location, don't go
to the Motel! Stay at MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast; pretty soon MY Victorian
Bed and Breakfast will be YOURS too!
